During the month of November I have been reading "Younger This Year," a book given to me by one of the members of my Silver Sneakers senior fitness class at Anytime Fitness. The book talks about all the things you can do to stay younger, longer. They especially focus on older adults ages 50-80. The main premise of the book is that diet, exercise, and healthy relationships can keep you from aging or reverse many of the effects of aging that we often face. There are multiple case studies showing how this works.

As a trainer, I have many sayings, such as "if you rest you rust" that I tell my older clients. I've always believed that staying active will keep you younger longer and this book just reinforced my beliefs. As I have been aging in my 20's, to now 29, I notice the days where I do the least activity and eat unhealthfully are the days I feel the worst. Keeping active and eating right on a consistent basis are what keep me young and strong.

In conjunction with Designer Protein, I accepted the #HealthUpYourHolidays challenge and spent November focusing on healthy living, activity, and healthy eating. I want to live younger, longer and I know that focusing on doing everything I can now to make that a reality will make my future a more pleasant one.

Vegan Organic Pro 30 Chocolate Protein Powder

One of the ways I am committing to being healthier is diet. Starting with healthy, vegetarian options. Getting protein after workouts is important during half marathon and marathon training, so I am incorporating healthy smoothies post workout.

I use protein powder on occasion to supplement my vegetarian diet. I tend to mostly blend it up in smoothies as this is the quickest and easiest way I have found to consume it. It's also the perfect post-workout fuel to get carbs and protein back to my muscles.

The first 30 minutes after exercise are when your body can process nutrients the best and replenish lost calories. So a smoothie or protein shake is a quick, easy and tasty way to refuel. Try one of my favorites below!
