Becoming a Student of Running

With training, I often think about what I need to be doing in the gym. Work harder, run faster, lift heavier. I have become more of a doer than a thinker. Don't get me wrong - the physical act of training is absolutely important, but I have been thinking lately about how I need to become a student of the sport again. In order to truly make my training better I need to be hungry to learn. Football and basketball players study game tape to learn about their opponents and correct their own weaknesses. In running - my competition is my own personal bests and I don't have access to a video to review post race. What I do have are books and coaches to learn from. The internet and social media are all tools that can help me get better. All the information is at my fingertips. I just have to be willing to study and implement new methods. IMG_6896

Since working for Nike is always my end goal and running is one of my passions, I thought it only right that I should start with two books from pioneers in running. The books "Pre" and "Bowerman and the Men of Oregon" are the two I have chosen to begin my pursuit of becoming a better runner both mentally and physically. I can't wait to get started and see how my running improves over this coming year.
