Summer Strong with Bob's Red Mill
Disclaimer: I was given product in exchange for an honest review in conjunction with my connection to Sweat Pink, all opinions are my own. During the month of July I have been fueling my strength training and runs with Bob's Red Mill's new line of protein powders in an effort to get summer strong. They are great mixed into pancakes, smoothies and shakes.
Like most protein powders, they aren't my favorite when strictly mixed with water or milk, so I tend to blend them into protein shakes when I want a quick protein intake, such as post-workout.
I was focusing on 5k training and track workouts this month, so I would generally have a shake or smoothie 2-3 times a week post sprint session. Depending how hungry I was, I might make a Chocolate Banana Protein Smoothie (more filling), or if I was more feeling like I needed hydration and muscle building protein alone, simply mix the protein powder with coconut milk.
One of my favorite recipes is the Chocolate Banana Protein Smoothie. It's quick and easy to make. It also tastes great!
Chocolate Banana Protein Smoothie
- 1/3 cup Bob's Red Mill Chocolate Protein Powder
- 1 cup ice
- 1 cup coconut milk or chocolate coconut water
- 1-2 tablespoons peanut butter
- 1 frozen banana
- (optional) 1-2 medjool dates for added sweetness
Blend all ingredients and enjoy!

Another favorite recipe is the Pumpkin Spice Smoothie featured on the Bob's Red Mill website. It tastes so good guys! The Chai Protein Powder makes it taste heavenly. You can find that recipe and many more on their site.
How Protein Helps Me Get Summer Strong
As a vegetarian, I need to get my protein from alternate sources than the average person does. While I never feel like I am lacking (I eat lots of beans, tofu, legumes, and some cheese), it's nice to have a convenient source of protein after my workouts. I tend to go hard in the gym or on my runs, so I often need a little extra fuel.
Proteins are the building blocks of life. With adequate protein intake I can feel a difference in my energy levels. My muscles heal faster when I am well fueled. What I really love about these supplements is that they are in their natural state. Bob's Red Mill doesn't use ingredients created in a lab or chemical solvents. Instead, their products are as close to their original state as possible. This keeps my stomach happy.
