I have been a fan of ArmPocket for a while. As a runner, I am always trying to find a convenient way to carry my ginormous iPhone 6 Plus on the go. I previously, and still do, own the Mega i-40 and it is great for training runs, especially when I need to carry my phone and fuel. At times, it can be too bulky for me. That is why I was super excited when ArmPocket introduced the Racer Plus for my iPhone 6+. Now, I can finally run with a less bulky armband.

I received the armband about 3 weeks ago and have been testing it ever since. I took it on trail runs, track workouts and to the Bowerman 5k race I raced this last weekend. Race day was the true test of how this armband holds up under pressure.

My favorite features of the Racer Plus

  • Slim design
  • Touch screen compatible
  • Comfortable arm strap
  • Fits my giant phone :)
  • Memory foam padding - so comfy!!
  • Sweat proof - so your phone stays dry
  • Reflective - super important to me because I often run in the evening or at night - especially with my upcoming Ragnar Relay in Napa!!

The only drawback is that with the Racer Plus I have to take my phone out of it's case to insert it into the slim design armband. However, this is what I want for racing, a light, slim design that doesn't weigh my arm down.

How did the Racer Plus hold up in training

I trained with the Racer Plus for 3 weeks before my race in Oregon. I would go to the track and run 3-5 miles a few times a week and then run up to the lake or around town for my other training runs. The Racer Plus held up great. I was even able to use touch controls during my run on my phone. That is a huge plus, because it meant I didn't have to stop and take my phone out of the armband on my run.

Since I had no problems with training, I decided to take the armband for it's first racing experience at the Bowerman 5k in Beaverton, OR.

Racing with ArmPocket's Racer Plus

Race day itself was interesting and I got to the start of the race 5 minutes late. I do not recommend that! Read the full recap (going live tomorrow, to see why).

Regardless, I strapped on my Racer Plus and started pounding the pavement to catch up. During the whole run I listened to my music flawlessly and I honestly didn't even notice that I had the armband on. It stayed firmly in place on my arm and was light enough that I hardly felt it at all.

I finished the race in just over 25 minutes and quickly took my armband off to stop my GPS on my phone and take a few pictures. Then I put my phone back in it's case and headed to the finish party and raffle. Honestly, the armband is great for post-race because I could easily keep my phone and credit card with me and safe and secure on my arm.

The bottom line

This armband is my absolute favorite for racing and when I want to run with as little weight on my body as possible. The slim design is a great innovation and I'm so happy to be training and racing with the Racer Plus! It's my top armband for speed work and race day because it stays put and keeps me more aerodynamic from the start.
