7 Ways You Know You are a Runner
It's impossible for me to hide in a crowd. I'm always pegged as a runner from the beginning. Probably because of my inability to part ways with my signature Nike's and tights. I pretty much wear them everywhere - whether I am running or not. Because you just never know when the mood will strike. Am I right?
Or maybe it's because of my constant apologizing for being a bit sweaty and sticky, but there was no time to change before dinner? I just grabbed some wet wipes, freshened up and showed up. Maybe I should think ahead next time...but I just had to get in those last 3 miles.
You run so you are a runner
Maybe you aren't quite as noticeable as me or maybe you are. No matter your pace, time or speed; we "runners" are all lumped into one category. You run, you are a runner. So what bonds us all together? There are many things, some common, some a bit crazy and others just because. We are runners and this is what makes us some of the craziest, coolest, nerdiest people in a crowded room.
7 ways you know you are a runner
You get a goofy grin on your face whenever the topic of running comes up. Yes, that big, crazy, toothy grin shows up whether you hear someone ran their first mile, a 5k or a marathon. You're eager to hear all about it and share your own race stories. Plus - you always are looking for new running buddies and race day carpool friends.
Your shoe closet is overrun with well, running shoes (pun intended). You need trail shoes, street shoes and racing flats. If you have a favorite pair you don't have just one, you stock up. Fleet Feet has your number on speed dial so you can know day one when your favorite shoe goes on sale. Your favorite shoe model is only around for 6 months before the style changes so you just HAVE TO stock up. Minimalist, maximalist, zero drop and traditional running shoes, you have tried them all and each of your running friends swear by a different running trend and philosophy.
You're a ball of energy. Runners have a constant flow of endorphins, so the energy is real. Every day is a good day for a sprint workout. Or maybe its the constant consumption or caffeinated shot bloks gummies, who knows! Just don't mess with a runner who has been away from running for even a few days, they're liable to snap!
You live in running tights. They are perfect for running, hiking, a night out, errands and more. Bright, dark, reflective, you have a pair for every obstacle that might get in the way. Your friends don't know how you can wear these tights anywhere and everywhere, but you know the truth. Comfort is king as a runner, plus, you never know when you might need to stop, drop and foam roll out those tight hamstrings.
Your social media feeds are photos of you, well, running. Or getting ready to run. Stretching post-run. Maybe your pre-race flat lay or post-race selfie. Did you run three miles today - post it. You are unafraid to share with the world that you are a runner and you don't understand why everyone in your life doesn't post their killer workouts.
Tracking your run is not optional. Whether it's Nike Plus, Strava or Garmin (or maybe all three), you track it, down to the last meter & inch. You run back and forth in front of your house to get your GPS watch to go from 2.98 miles to 3. Yes, that extra .02 counts and you didn't truly run 3 miles unless your Garmin says so!
All your extra money goes to racing, travel, shoes and well, racing. Running is life. You see a half marathon as the most fun you can have in a weekend and you invite everyone you know to come cheer you on. Heck, why not invite everyone you know to run with you?! Your vacations are all scheduled around your next big race because why would you travel somewhere and not run?
As a runner, I'm willing to bet that you can relate to one, if not all, of these scenarios. Don't be shy, which one most applies to you? Share ones I've missed below and happy running!
